Newton

Jerry Lee Supernois passed away on November 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 14, 1947, to Calvin and Normadean Supernois, he was the oldest of two children.

Jerry graduated from Newton High School in 1965. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves, serving active duty overseas in Korea from 1967 -1968. He rose to the rank of Staff Sargent before his honorable discharge in 1971.

Jerry dedicated his professional life to the family business, Supernois Furniture, for over 40 years, becoming the owner in 1981. This is where he met his future wife, Joanne, as she rented an apartment above the store when she moved to Newton. While a member of many groups and organizations in the community his favorite memories and countless stories were of their time in the Newton Jaycees. He retired from the furniture store in 2001 and went on to work for his son, Mark, as a Manufacturer’s Representative traveling Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri for companies located in Mississippi, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

In 2004, he decided it was time to come in off the road as he was expecting grandchildren. He became Grandpa Daycare and devoted the rest of his life to caring for his three grandchildren, Marcella, Alexander, and Ashleigh, who were the light of his life. Being a grandpa was everything to him. From taking them to the park to play, to all their days of school, and everything in between. He was a great father exceeded only by his dedication to life as a grandfather. When two more entered the picture through life’s happenings he welcomed them right into the family as only he knew how.

Jerry was married to his late wife Joanne for over 53 years. His legacy continues with his son Mark (Holly) Supernois of Wichita, granddaughters Brianna and Madison of Tempe, AZ, daughter Lisa (Dan) Timmons, granddaughters Marcella and Ashleigh all of Newton, daughter Kristi Bueno, grandson Alexander all of Newton. Other survivors include his sisters-in-law Jan Spade of Emporia, KS, and Susan (Ed) Ryan of Hoyt, KS, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and younger sister.

Cremation has taken place, and the family will have a celebration of life service at a future date. Memorial donations can be made in his honor to the Caring Hands Humane Society of Newton, KS, as he loved every one of his dogs throughout his life’s journey and they all need a home.
