Joyce Maier

Joyce M. Maier 68, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at her Newton residence. She was born May 2, 1948 in Hays Kansas to Cecil and Wilma (Saleen) Puckett. She was a 1966 graduate of Trego High School and attended Fort Hays State University. On June 11, 1967 she married Donald G. Maier at Wakeeney, Kansas and he preceded her in death in 1993. She worked as an office manager for surgical associates of Hays for nearly 36 years. Joyce was active in the Newton community as a member of the Carriage Factory Art Gallery, lifetime member of the Friends of the Library, board member and volunteer at Grand Central senior center and active with the Red Hat Ladies. She was also a benefactor of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ogallah. Of all of Joyce’s many activities and memberships her greatest joy was that of being a loving mother and friend to many.

She is survived by her daughter Shelby of Newton, Kansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother Lloyd Puckett.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday April 17, 2017 at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the casket will be open 1 hour prior to the service in Hays. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays, Kansas with Pastor’s Marie Sager and David Reimer presiding. Burial will be in the Ft. Hays Memorial Gardens in Hays, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to Grand Central Senior Center in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
