Julia Pogue

June 11, 1958 – April 8, 2022

Julia Lissette Hernandez Conde de Pogue, small in physical stature but large in life, passed to be with her Momma and Papa at 4:18 PM on Friday, April the 8th. Julia departed this life peacefully within a circle of love and caring family.

Julia was the daughter of Porfirio Hernandez and Julia Conde born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. She loved her home country even though she lived most of her life in the United States. She traveled the world as a young woman until visiting at college one day, she caught the eye of her soon to be husband Ed Pogue. Julia loved to dance and sing and performed with the folkloric ballet in Guatemala. A graduate of California State University, San Bernadino, she was a continuous advocate for education. She was gifted in languages, being fluent in English, Spanish, and French. She ensured her nieces and nephews valued education as well.

She loved children and spent a better part of her life devoted to her students whom she also touched. She had the most contagious laugh, brightest personality, and courageous spirit.

She is preceded in death by her parents Porfirio and Julia and her father-in-law Donald Pogue, her brother Guillermo Antonio Hernandez Conde, niece Veronica Ortiz, nephews Edgar Alfredo and Mario Alfredo Hernandez, brothers-in-laws Octavio Ortiz, Rick Ellis, Rolando Santizo, and Fred Pogue.

She is survived by her beloved Ed, her mother-in-law Freda Gattis, and her siblings: Adriana Hernandez, Celia (John) Casas, Aura Ellis, Elsa Lily Hernandez, Carmen (Mike) Munn, Edgar Alfredo Hernandez Conde and her nieces and nephews: Octavio, Otto and Rosa Ortiz, John Paul, Kristy Casas, Emma (Edwin) Carey, Lilian Esther (Travis) Newey, Luisa (Jason) Hansen, Diego Santizo, and Astrid Munn, and by her many cousins in Texas and Guatemala.

Our hearts have been forever changed by her incredible love, and she will be greatly missed. A Community Celebration for the Life of Julia Pogue is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the Pearson Swedish Chapel on the campus of Bethany College in Lindsborg at 1:00 P.M.
