Kathy Hewett

Kathy A. (Rutenbeck) Hewett 71 died March 10, 2025, at her Newton residence. She was born April 5, 1953, in Waukegan, Illinois to Harvey L. and Iva Fay (Barr) Rutenbeck. On December 29, 1972, she married David W. Hewett in Parsons, Kansas and he survives of the home.

Kathy was a retired ARPN working with the Sedgwick County Kansas Juvenile Detention Center. She earned a degree in Psychology at Pittsburg State University, a Nursing Degree at Hesston College and her APRN at Wichita State University. Kathy took pride in being a pediatric care provider.

She had a love of gardening, and mystery novels. She worked with the church youth group, and especially enjoyed menu planning and cooking for the Valentine’s Day banquet. Kathy loved to cook and sew. She took great joy in her family.

Kathy is survived by her husband David of the home; sons: Joel Hewett and Kelly Hewett; daughter Stephanie Hewett ; and two grandchildren Gabe and Iva. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Larry Rutenbeck.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with Pastor Chip Bungard presiding. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at Petersen Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Whitewater Cemetery, Whitewater, Kansas.

Memorials may be made to the Caring Hands Humane Society and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
