W. Kay Hague, a radiant spirit known for her adventurous heart and warm personality, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Hesston, Kansas, at the age of 87. Born on April 19, 1937, in Buchanan, Michigan, Kay lived a vibrant life that touched the hearts of many.
Kay dedicated over two decades of her professional life as an orthodontic assistant, contributing to the well-being of countless patients. Known for her strong will and independence, she enriched every environment she entered with her intelligence and a delightful sense of sarcasm. Her professional life was just one facet of a rich and vibrant existence that saw her call 25 different homes across the United States. Each place she lived added layers to her story—friends made, memories cherished, and lives touched.
A woman of many talents, Kay was an accomplished oil painter, woodworker, seamstress, and quilter, showcasing her artistry and craftsmanship through her beloved creations. In the 1980s, she and her husband, Gel, shared their passion for crafting with the community through their business, "Country Woods by Gel & Kay Hague."
Kay’s home was a reflection of her love of Christmas; every year, she transformed her house into a festive wonderland, where every room sparkled with decorations. She loved throwing grand Christmas parties, embracing the spirit of the holiday with a contagious enthusiasm. That same joy extended beyond her home, as she reveled in shopping for antiques, exploring boutiques, or uncovering treasures at Dillards, believing that a great sale was always just around the corner.
A passionate traveler, Kay embraced the beauty of both far-off lands and the simple joys of domestic road trips. Her adventures took her across Europe, Asia, and the scenic back roads of America. She cherished every opportunity to explore new places, taste diverse cuisines, and create unforgettable memories along the way. An aficionado of music and the arts, Kay reveled in attending theater performances and dining in exquisite restaurants, always seeking out experiences that delighted the senses.
Throughout her life, Kay maintained meaningful friendships, including her lifelong best friend, Nelda Dow, and dear friends Mary Ann Varriano, Karen Moore, and sister-in-law, Bobbie Ann Hague. Her kindness and compassion echoed through the lives of many who were lucky enough to know her.
Kay is survived by her loving and devoted children, Jodi (Hague) and son-in-law Dave Frank, Kevin and daughter-in-law Lori Hague, and Mark Hague; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of creativity, friendship, and strength, inspiring those she touched to embrace life fully and with joy.
Kay is preceded in death by her husband, Gelbert Hague; husband, Max Mayhill; parents, Dwight and Virginia Babock; and sisters, Frenda Burrows and Oralee Crowell.
