Larry T. Hart 84, died September 4, 2022 at his Newton residence. He was born November 3, 1937 in Nashville, Kansas to Eldon E. and Lois (Martindale) Hart. On August 31, 1958 he married Nancy J. Koch and she survives of the home.
Larry lived on a farm near Maud, Kansas and when he was 5 years old moved to Pratt where he attended public school and college. He worked at the Calbeck furniture and music store while in school. He later worked sales for BF Goodrich before becoming a business representative at Southwestern Bell. Larry moved to Wichita in the early 60’s with Southwestern Bell. After that he joined Royal Business Machines as a typewriter/calculator technician, before working for and then becoming co-owner of Janzen Business Machines with his wife. While running the company he sold and serviced business machines throughout South Central Kansas and had a large clientele in Wichita and the area school districts.
He was a member of the Methodist church, Masonic Lodge 99 and the Scottish Rite Temple in Wichita.
Larry was known as a very gracious and kind person who also had a really fun sense of humor. He had a beautiful bass voice and sang the most gorgeous acapella rendition of “Amazing Grace”. In school he played 1st chair trumpet and people requested he play taps at many funerals. One of Larry’s favorite pastimes was water skiing and he skied well into his 60’s. Tablerock lake was a favorite vacation spot.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy; son Tim Hart and his wife Debbie; daughter Kristi Berning and her husband Rex. He is also survived by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, brother Eldon Hart, Jr., and sister Marilyn Hubert.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton, Kansas. Graveside committal will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Maud Cemetery in rural Cunningham, Kansas. There will be no public visitation.
Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and left with Petersen Funeral Home.
