Laurie Robinson

Laurie Oswald Robinson was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on July 14, 1959. She graduated from Goshen College in 1983, majoring in Communication. A Newton resident, Laurie was a prolific writer, working for several newspapers such as Harvey County Now and Mennonite Weekly Review. She wrote two books: Forever Family, a book that documents her journey with a beloved foster daughter and Now It Springs Up, a devotional book. She was a free-lance writer, specializing in helping families create family books. She had just completed a family book for her own family.

Laurie was active in organizations like Peace Connections, planning a golf tournament and fundraising events. She traveled to South Africa, raising money and writing for Water for Life. She was a beloved teacher and substitute teacher in the Newton community. 

Laurie was married to Al Robinson in 2005. She was active in the Mennonite Church and then became a devout Catholic, where she wrote educational articles, taught classes and served as a cantor. She put 100% into everything she did and was a beloved member of every community she served.

Laurie Oswald Robinson died April 8, in a pedestrian/car accident, as she trained for the Father Kapaun Pilgrimage. 


She is survived by her husband Al, sister Jane Lambert (Vaughn), of Salina, KS, brother Neil Oswald (Kathy), of Manson, Iowa, brother Brian Oswald (Patty) of Chicago, IL and her mother-in-law, Beryl, Al's three brothers, Danny (Wendy), Ronny (Jeannie) and Michael (Wendy). She is also survived by ,   and many nieces and nephews. 


She is preceded in death by her father, Paul, and mother, Dorothy, sister Paula and nephew Kevin and her brother-in-law, Reggie (Jane).


Visitation and Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be on April 18, from 5-9 PM with the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at the Petersen Funeral Home, with Catholic Mass on Friday, April 19, 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Newton. 

Memorial donations can be made out to either Peace Connections or the Altar Society at Our Lady of Guadalupe and left in care of Petersen Family Funeral Home.
