Lee E. Rempel, 87, of Peabody, Kansas, died on Sunday, December 14, 2014.

 

Lee was born on May 16, 1927 in Denver, Colorado. His parents were Ernest and Emma (Ewert) Rempel.  He attended schools in the Peabody area and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

 

In May, of 1951, he married Arlene Joan Goenteal in Peabody, Kansas. They were married for 57 years until her passing in 2008.

 

Lee was a retired farmer. He served on the Farm Bureau Board in Marion County, was a member of Haleyon Lodge #120, AF & AM-Postmaster, Doyle Creek Watershed Board and a member of the Peabody United Methodist Church. He was an avid K-State football and basketball fan.

 

A recent highlight was a trip taken with his son, David, to Washington DC with the Honor Flight and other WW II veterans.

 

He is survived by his two children:  Joleen and Mark Lyons of Newton and David and Jody Rempel of Peabody, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife: Arlene; father and mother: Ernest and Emma Rempel; and sister: Esther McIntosh.

 

Services are scheduled for 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, December 17th at the Peabody United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be held at Petersen Funeral Home, on December 16th, from 4:00 to 9:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M.  A private burial will be held prior to the service.
