Lester Paul Jarrell 83, died Sunday, June 11, 2017 at his Newton residence.  He was born October 25, 1933 in Chase, Kansas to Charles R. and Ethel R. (Strempel) Jarrell. On March 28, 1953 he married Barbara Dimmitt in Joplin, Missouri and she survives of the home.

 

Lester as he was known by his work colleagues retired as a production supervisor at Excel Industries in Hesston. Earlier in his career he worked for Coleman Company in Wichita.  He and his wife had a weekend home on Marion County Lake for many years where they enjoyed boating and socializing with family and friends.  Lester was a Boy Scout Leader, known for his handy man skills and used his creative talent alongside is wife to dig and design several backyard fish ponds for himself and his family.  He and Barbara enjoyed square dancing and were affiliated with the Circle 8 square dance club, they enjoyed playing bridge and were on several bowling leagues through the years.  In earlier years Lester and Barbara held a social membership with the VFW and were members of the ELKS club.  Lester looked forward to spending time with his wife completing various home projects and spending time with his loving family and many friends.

 

Lester is survived by his wife Barbara of the home; son Stan and his wife Tracy of Newton, KS and daughter Teresa and her husband Tim of Halstead, KS.  He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Byron Keith Jarrell and brother Leon Jarrell.

 

A time of Remembrance and Sharing with the family will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 at Petersen’s Chapel. A private family interment will be at a later date.

 

Memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
