Lois Moore Salvio

d. January 8, 2019

Lois Moore Salvio, 98, of Asbury Park, Newton, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2019.

Lois was born in Cushing, Oklahoma on November 4th, 1920 to James Thomas Moore and Elsie (Parker) Moore.  She married Julius C. Turovh (Turk) August 22, 1949 in Marion, Kansas. In 1952 she married Al Benjamin and on May 15, 1953 they were later divorced, she then married John J. Salvio (JJ) February 29, 1976 in Reno, Nevada and he preceded her in death in 1987.

When she was 7 years old, her father died.  He had a saying “You’re here today but tomorrow you don’t know”.

Lois started working before she finished high school with a outdoor Entertainment Show which travelled through many states.  She continued with this work for 13 years with numerous shows, living in many different states finding her first love Turk, in Tampa, Florida.  In 1951 they made Newton home and she worked at Boeing as a wireman.  Layoffs in 1955 from Boeing moved her to southern California where she continued her wiring skills at Burroughs Electra Data and then to Singer Librascope.  In 1978 she retired from Librascope and made the move back to Newton with her husband JJ.  This time she worked at Beech for a few years, then some jobs around town.

She never liked to have idle hands.  Poetry was her passion throughout her life, writing since early childhood.  She wrote mostly for and of friends and family.  She was so proud when four of her poems were selected for publication by the National Library of Poetry in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 2000.  Crossword puzzles and cryptograms kept her mind sharp.  She felt honored to have had meaningful and enjoyable employment throughout her working years, awarded with good health and precious friendships.   Lois’ memberships were V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, Greater Tampa Showmen’s Club and Lady Elks.

She is survived by her nieces Debby Stoddard and Denise Hayes and their families.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain John Hull presiding

Memorial donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice or Asbury Park in care of Petersen Funeral Home.

Debby and Denise would like to extend our appreciation to the staff of Greenhouse 1213 at Asbury Park.   Their care and concern for Lois through the last 4 years was wonderful.
