Lorenza “Lorrie” Terrones Lujano

Lorenza “Lorrie” Terrones Lujano 93, died Saturday June 12, 2021 at her Newton residence.  She was born September 5, 1927 in Newton, Kansas to Thomas and Clara (Landin) Terrones.

On April 17, 1948 she married Angel Lujano in Newton, Kansas and he preceded her in death in 2002.

Lorenza attended Newton High School and worked at the Hurst Poultry and Egg Company during WW II where she had many stories of working with the German POW that were housed in the area. After the war Lorenza concentrated on raising her family and being a loving homemaker, wife and mom.  In her younger years, she played on the Mexican American All Women’s Softball team for 12 years. She greatly enjoyed music and played the violin. She especially enjoyed playing the classical violin with her sisters.

Lorenza was an active member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton where she was always willing to service and help. She served on the church Altar Committee for many years.  Her faith was a guiding light in her life, she prayed the Rosary daily and was known by her friends and family to be a “prayer warrior” praying for her friends, family and community.

Lorrie is survived by her son Ernesto F. “Ernie” Lujano; daughters Delia J. Lujano and Anna V. Lujano. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Parents, daughter Alice Marie Chavez and 5 brothers: Andy, Foster, Alfred, Gene and Leo and 3 sisters: Ventura Campa, Hope Gonzalez and Anna Terrones.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Friday June 18, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton with The Reverend Jorge Lopez, Celebrant. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  The casket will be open at the church from 5:00 p.m. to Rosary time Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery Newton.

Memorials in Lorrie’s name may be left with Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
