Lorton Hayes Rowland, 90, passed away on May 13, 2018 at Newton Medical Center.
Lorton was born on October 8, 1927 to Charlie and Gertrude Rowland in Newton, Kansas.
He married Inez Woody in Los Angeles, California. Inez valued that he was dependable, had strong traditional values and a wonderful sense of humor. They were married for fifty two years prior to his passing.
Lorton attended Newton schools and later joined and served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II. After the war, he worked for and later retired from the Santa Fe Railroad. He loved music, especially Jazz, and enjoyed football and basketball. He was a lifelong member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church of Newton.
He was survived by his wife: Inez Rowland; sister: Josephine Murphy, daughter: Grace Marie Jordan; sons: Floyd Edwards, Carl Edwards, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two sons: Arbey Edwards, Anthony Edwards and daughter Lacita Davis.
A graveside memorial committal service will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society, 330 S. Main St., Wichita, Kansas 67202. Petersenfamilyfuneralhome.com
