Margaret D. Smithhart 89, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Asbury Park in Newton, Kansas.  She was born October 24, 1925 in Beverly, Kansas to Emil and Ruby (Kidwell) Bergman.  On December 31, 1944 she married Lloyd Smithhart in Minneapolis, KS and he preceded her in death.  Margaret was a nurse aide at the former Axtell hospital in Newton prior to her retirement.  She was a member of the First Christian Church in Newton where she was active in the women’s group and also took care of the church library for many years.  Margaret enjoyed being part of the Red Hat Society and also enjoyed collecting pig figurines and art which she proudly displayed in her room.  Margaret enjoyed following her television soap operas and you learned to not disturb her during her “stories”.  She was a loving mother and good friend and will be greatly missed by many.

 

 

Margaret is survived by her sons: Bill and his wife MaryAnn Smithhart of Marion, KS and Mark and his wife Penny Smithhart of Whitewater, KS; daughters: Betty and her husband Tommy Littrell of Weaverville, NC, and Linda Smithhart of Eldorado, KS. She is also survived by two brothers Harold Bergman and Hurley Bergman both of Minneapolis, KS.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd,  daughter Andrea Smithhart, sister Carolyn Hill and Brother Ben Bergman, granddaughter Leandra Smithhart

 

Graveside committal service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas with Pastor Gary Bell presiding. There will be no public visitation.
