Marjorie Ann Hazelwood 88, died Tuesday, January 02, 2018 at Halstead Health and Rehab in Halstead, Kansas. She was born March 7, 1929 at Reserve in Brown County, Kansas to Charles and Velma Babb. On January 22, 1948 she married Vernon Hazelwood at Falls City, Nebraska and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2007.
Marjorie moved to Newton in 1992 from Goshen, Indiana to be closer to family. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. She appreciated the care and concern of her church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Halstead.
She had a love of all animals and felt a connection to St. Francis in her care of animals. She had many dogs, cats and birds through the years. Marjorie also loved to spoil the wild animals around her yard.
Marjorie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many friends.
She is survived by her sons: Dan and Billie Hazelwood of Lincoln, NE; Tom Hazelwood of Phoenix, AZ; and Jim and Renee Hazelwood of Aurora, CO; daughter: Sally Phillips of Newton, KS; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughters Kari Calloway and Nancy Klaus, grandson Scott Phillips and 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral Mass will be 9:00 a.m., Thursday morning January 4, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton, Kansas. With The Reverend Jeff Fashing Celebrant. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 8:30 a.m. at the Church prior to the Mass at the Church. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Catholic Cemetery in Falls City, Nebraska with The Reverend Thomas Dunavan presiding. There will be no public visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Caring Hands Humane Society or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hazelwood family. Majorie was one of the sweetest lady’s I have ever known. I remember meeting her at Sacred Heart and occasionally seeing her at Our Lady of Guadalupe. My sincere sympathy.
I rember going over to visit her. She was so funny and nice.she loved her dog and birds she had. And her cat. She so sweet to me. I will miss her very much.jaimee
