Marjorie P. Strain

Marjorie P. Strain 96, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at Asbury Park in Newton, Kansas.  She was born July 27, 1918 at Green, Kansas to John Roy and Ethel Erde (Smith) Bushell.  On December 12, 1937 she married John P. ”Jack” Strain at Cimmaron, Kansas and he preceded her in death on February 21, 1998. She was a graduate of Dodge City High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton, Kansas. She was also a member of Eastern Star.  Marjorie enjoyed yard work and tending flowers, she especially enjoyed her red rose plants.  She was an avid card player and played card games nearly daily.  Marjorie left her family the gift of her daily journaling which she has kept up through the years.  She greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many friends. 

 

She is survived by her daughters Sidney Tatro of Claremore, OK, Marion Miller of Collinsville, OK, Linda Baldwin of Moundridge, KS and Jacqueline Hawk of Marion, KS.  She is also survived by 17 loving grandchildren: Tammie, Tracie, Terri, John II, Kim, Kelly, Scott, Katie, Stacy, Steve, Julie, John, Larry, Shelly, Robin, Jerry and Matthew and 32 great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren.

 

Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband John Pershing “Jack” Strain, son John Paul Strain, brothers: Leo, Wayne, Raymond and Dale Bushell and sisters Marion Leonard, Nola Jordan and Loleta Bushell.

 

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory rural Newton, Kansas.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 at Petersen Funeral Home.

 

Memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
