Mark Runnells, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle of Newton Ks went to be with his eternal father on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
Mark was born July 17, 1955 to James (Jim) and Joan (Timmermyer) Runnells. Mark was the third oldest of seven siblings, He attended elementary education at St. Marys Catholic School. As a young boy, Mark was an active member of the Boy Scouts and an avid sports participant and fan. As a young adult Mark was an active member of his Catholic youth group, winning awards for being a hard worker in high school. Mark graduated from Newton High School in 1973 and subsequently attended Emporia State University where he played baseball. Mark married Marcia Green, the mother of his children in 1980 and he proudly welcomed his son Ryan in June of 1982 and daughter Ashly in November of 1984. His children took after their Dad, playing baseball and softball and they enjoyed creating memories outdoors together. He graduated as an RN from Hesston College in 1995, which was very fitting as Mark spent the majority of his life as a caretaker and nurturer to all those we met, selflessly giving his time and talents to others. He married the love of his life, Alysia (Rosberg) on December 2, 1995. Mark and Alysia loved spending time together, were active members in their church community, and are very loving Grandparents. After retiring in 2021 Mark & Alysia began fulfilling items on their bucket list traveling to National Parks and chasing the grandkids ballgames. Mark will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends near and far.
Mark is survived by his wife Alysia of Newton, son Ryan (Theresa) Runnells of Cheney, Ashly (Derrick Thomas) Runnells of Newton, sisters Diana (Mike) Roberts, Janice Puttroff, Patti (Barry) Hardman, Carol (Ed) Salsbery, Rosemary (Darrell) Boger, brother Jimmy (Jodi) Runnells, grandchildren, Isabel (11), Gabriella (8), and Jacob (5) Runnells, and 18 nieces and nephews.
