Marvin Daniel Huxman, 90, passed away on July 7, 2023. Marvin was born July 24, 1932 to Henry Earl and Inez Lucille (Decker) Huxman of rural Moundridge, Kansas. The family moved to rural Walton, Kansas where they farmed for many years. Marvin’s mother died in a tragic traffic accident in 1940. His father married Martha Fast, who raised the four children and loved them dearly. Marvin always thought he was Martha’s favorite. Marvin graduated from Walton High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1953 until January 1955 when he was honorably discharged from service. Marvin worked for the U. S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1989. In 1970 Marvin started a small engine repair business named Ping Pang Repair in Newton, Kansas. Ping Pang Repair was Marvin’s side job and it served the community for several decades.
Second only to his love of God was Marvin’s love of family and country. Marvin faithfully gave of himself to his church as a Sunday School teacher, leadership team member, road bus driver, and choir member. He enjoyed singing first tenor in a men’s quartet and served on a variety of councils and committees. He modeled a strong work ethic for his children and taught them the value of honest work. He honored the American flag and he was proud of the goodness and opportunity that abound in this great country.
Marvin married Ruth Ann Neilson-Poe of Tulsa, Oklahoma in October 1957. Together, Marvin and Ruth Ann raised five children and celebrated 61 years of marriage before Ruth Ann passed away.
Marvin’s hobbies included gardening, woodworking, table games, and reading. He also had a very keen sense of humor. He always loved a good joke and his pranks left many of his victims laughing after they recovered from their initial shock.
Marvin is preceded in death by his father, both of his mothers, his wife Ruth Ann, his brother Wiley Huxman, sister Joan Murray, sister Delia Schroeder, and great granddaughter Halana Barrone.
Marvin is survived by his children: Billie (Wayne) Weeks of Pawnee, OK; Wayne (Julie) Huxman of Halstead, KS; Myron (Sandy) Huxman of Wichita, KS; Sally (Darryl) Thiesen of Goessel, KS; and Paul Huxman of Spring Hill, KS. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday July 23, 2023 from 1:00pm-5:00pm at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, Kansas. A funeral service will be held Monday July 24, 2023 at 10:30am at Wichita First Church of the Nazarene in Wichita, Kansas. Graveside service will follow and will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas.
