Marvin J. Schmidt, 83, died on Thursday, February 20th at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.
Marvin was born on December 11, 1930 in Goessel, Kansas to Jacob and Martha (Goertzen) Schmidt.
He married Frances Schlup on January 20, at the First Baptist Church in Newton. They had been married 56 years prior to his passing.
Marvin was retired from the Santa Fe Railroad where he worked as a car inspector for over 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton.
Marvin is survived by his spouse, Frances Schmidt; daughter, Peggy Blevins and spouse, Dan; son, Larry Schmidt and spouse Tina; sisters, Hilda Voth and Ella Schmidt, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jacob and Martha Schmidt; and brother, Otto Schmidt.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Petersen Funeral Home. A visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Monday, February 24th, at Petersen Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
