Mary D. Gatz, 90, passed away on May 12, 2018 in Emporia, Kansas.

 

Mary was born April 5, 1928 in Clonmel, Kansas to Balthazar and Katherine (Goerings) Lies.

 

Mary was married on May 22, 1956 to William Francis Gatz at St. Mary’s Church in Newton. They were married for forty three years prior to his death on May 4, 1999.

 

Mary and William lived and worked on a farm.  Mary also worked at Hehr Midwest for almost fifteen years.

 

Mary loved to garden and work with flowers.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing and hunting with her husband. She was a good hearted, and generous person whom enjoyed life and celebrating it.

 

She is survived by her children: Bill and Valerie Gatz, Annette and Steve Taylor, Cheryl and Kevin Byrne; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers and two sisters.

 

The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m., Monday, May 14th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Newton.  The Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, May 15th, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Following the Mass a Committal Service will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

  1. So sorry, just became aware of Mary’s passing. Condolences to the family; especially Annette, whom I have found memories of coming to our house to see my daughter, Carol Hinton, and sharing many other experiences with you girls! Blessings to all!
