Mary L. Olmstead, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Asbury Park in Newton. She was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Taylor Township, Minn., to Charles and Olive (Wentworth) Olmstead. She was a homemaker and babysitter. Growing up in Minnesota, Mary enjoyed hunting and fishing and being outdoors. Her family was very important to her, and she greatly enjoyed spending time with them. She recently joined the Red Hat Society and enjoyed the companionship of her new friends.Mary is survived by her sister, Marjorie and her husband, James Laswell of Newton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Dorothy and Lois, and brothers, Charles and Jack.A graveside committal service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, with Pastor Matthew Kruse of Newton Bible Church presiding.
