Mary E. (Ellington) Watts of Newton, Kansas, 86 died October 6, 2024, at NMC Health in Newton, Kansas, with her husband and children by her side. She was born November 16, 1937, in Wyandotte, Oklahoma to George and Helen J. (Power) Ellington. Mary grew up in the Miami, Oklahoma area. On September 25, 1953, she married Bobby A. Watts in Afton, Oklahoma and they just recently celebrated the milestone of 71 years of marriage together. 

She was a longtime active member of the Eastside United Methodist Church in Newton. Mary’s faith in Jesus was complete and important to her. Mary and Bobby spent most of their adult life in the Peabody, Hesston and Newton communities.

Mary graduated from Peabody High School in 1963 and McPherson LPN School in 1976. She worked at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in the Nursery for 13 years and at Kansas Christian Home as an evening supervisor for 10 years prior to her retirement in 1998

She enjoyed spending time crocheting and was a member of the Hook and Needle Club in Newton. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for her grandchildren to treasure. 

Mary is survived by her husband Bobby of the home, sons Robert (Janet) Watts, Buhler, Kansas and George (Rose) Watts, Agency, Missouri; daughter Kathy (Curtis) Adkins, Newton, Kansas; 7 grandchildren Lisa, Brian, Katie, Matt, Anna, Brittany and Logan, and 15 great grandchildren Corey, Cassidy, Cailyn, Emma, Easton, Rosalie, Lydia, Hadassah, Canaan, Talitha, Bobby, Landon, Luci, Laythyn, and Theodore. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, and stepfather Roy Patton

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Hysom presiding. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory rural Newton. 

Memorials may be made out to Eastside United Methodist Church and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
