Merle G. Waltner 86, died Friday, July 11, 2014 at his daughters home in Thornton, Colorado.  He was born June 8, 1928 in Moundridge, Kansas to Joseph and Regina (Vogt) Waltner.  He married Ina F. Ludlow on September 30, 1952 at First Mennonite Church in Newton, Kansas and she preceded him in death on April 11, 2004.  Merle farmed Northeast of Newton for many years and he took a position with Harvey County in 1967.  He worked for Harvey County in various departments and positions until his retirement in 1997.  He was a loving father and grandfather and greatly looked forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends. 

 

He is survived by his son Doug Waltner of Newton, KS; daughters: Susan Waltner of Newton, KS; Kathy Coons of Thornton, CO; and Paula Rice of Desert Hot Springs, CA.  He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

 

Merle is preceded in death by his wife, parents and 3 sisters Wilma Comstock, Bertha Voth and Selma Stucky

 

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Gleason presiding.  A book will be available 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday for friends to sign. Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory rural Newton, Kansas.
