Michael G. Dechant

Michael G. Dechant 57, died Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at his Halstead residence.  He was born January 28, 1960 in Blackwell, OK to Elmer R. and Billie J. (Soctt) Dechant.  On January 8, 1999 he married Laurie “Jill” Martin and she survived of the home.

Michael served his country in the US Army was a plumber installing Echo water softeners.  He had a love of farming and he farmed land around the Ness City, KS area prior to moving to Halstead.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the NRA.  Michael had a soft spot for dogs and enjoyed spending time with his Rottweilers. Family was very important and he greatly looked forward to spending time with his loving family, grandchildren and many friends.

He is survived by his wife Jill of the home; sons: Jonathan (Angie) Harries and Jeremy Harris both of Wichita, KS; daughters: Michelle (Travis) Scott of Lockhart, TX, Crystal (Daniel) Beougher of Arkansas City, KS, Aubry (Ryan) Boyce of Derby, KS and Angela and Ben Sirmans of Towanda, KS; sister Sherrie Smith of Colorado; he is also survived by 15 grandchildren which he adored.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, sister Michelle and brother Mitchell.

Graveside committal service with military honors will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Halstead City Cemetery in Halstead, Kansas.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
