Michael D. Sturgeon, 61, died February 18, 2024, at his Newton residence. He was born September 9, 1962, in Newton, Kansas to Joe and Carolyn (Boyes) Sturgeon.
Michael attended St. Mary Catholic Church in his younger years. He was a 1980 graduate of Newton High School and worked for several years for the City of Newton Sanitation Department. Millennium Machine in Newton, Kansas for a short span. He also worked many years in the aircraft industry in Wichita and Excel in Hesston.
He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed Harley Davidson Motorcycles having owned both a soft tail and Sportster bike. He was a race fan and enjoyed time at the Wichita International Raceway. He enjoyed attending car shows with his family, especially the Newton Downtown Car Show and cruise nights.
Family was important to Michael, and he looked forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends. He also shared his love with his Boston Terrier, Braxton.
He is survived by his brother, Todd Sturgeon, sister, Crystal (Sturgeon) Ruiz, many nieces, nephews, great nephews, a great niece, and many extended family members.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 6:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church with The Reverend Andrew Bergkamp leading the Rosary. Family will greet friends following the Rosary. Graveside Committal service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday February 23, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial contributions can be made to Caring Hands Humane Society or American Heart Association and left in care of Petersen Family Funeral Home.
