Milton W. Hinz

Milton W. Hinz 92, died Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Newton Presbyterian Manor. He was born May 28, 1923 in Corn, Oklahoma to Benjamin B. and Marie (Nachtigal) Hinz. On March 18, 1944 he married Ruby L. Flaming in Clinton, Oklahoma and she survives of the home. Milton was a member of the Grace Community Church in Newton, Kansas and retired as a custom harvester.

Milton grew up on the family farm in Oklahoma and was not shy about sharing his memories of the hard work of farming he had growing up, including his story of using a single blade plow and horse to cultivate the ground to grow cotton and corn. Milton graduated from Corn High School and attended Southwestern Tech College in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He loved gadgets and was fascinated by the computer and enjoyed learning this new technology.

Milton was a man of great faith and at the age of 15 accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized at the First Mennonite Bergthold Church in Oklahoma. Milton’s joy was that of a family man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many.

He is survived by his wife Ruby of the home; daughters Karen Machock and her husband Joe of Green Valley, Arizona and Janice Classen and her husband Ray of North Newton, Kansas; Sister Loretta Vinogradov of Lafayette, California and Lenora Nickel of Fresno, California. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Milton is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and two sisters.

Graveside committal service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas. Following the committal service there will be a service of celebration and remembrance at Grace Community Church “fireside room” at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors David Reimer and Steve Friesen officiating. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m.to 8:00 p.m.
