Monica K Stovall

Monica K. Stovall, 66, died October 5th, 2024 in Milford Delaware, with her daughter by her side.

She was born in Wellington Kansas on November 28th, 1957, the daughter of Gary and Retha (Strait) Blankenship.

Monica was united in marriage to John “Jay” Stoval, on September 17th, 1976, in California. At the time of Jay’s passing (2021) they had been married 44 years.

Monica attended high school in Hesston Kansas, where she also worked as a waitress at the Colonial House. During her time there is where she met Jay, they later moved to California where they were married. Monica worked in golf course construction with Jay for over 30 years. After retiring from the golf course industry, they settled in Newton Kansas where they started their own landscaping business.

Monica enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren most of all. Being a grandmother and mother was the most important thing to her. She also enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with Jay, traveling and cooking for her family. Monica loved that her grandchildren always had special meal requests when they came to visit that only Granny could make. 

Everyone that met Monica knew that she was hardworking, generous and was a bit of a jokester. She would do anything to help and take care of her family and friends when they needed her.

Monica is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Tim) Bayes of Delaware; Stepson, Danny (Lesley) Stovall of Michigan; Stepdaughter, Kelly (Brian) Smead of California; Eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Monica was preceded in death by her husband John Stoval; Parents, Gary and Retha Blankenship; Stepson Mark Stoval; Granddaughter Ashley Stoval.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday October 19th, at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorial contributions in Monica’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Delaware Hospice in care of Petersen’s Funeral Home.
