Neoma Ruth Schmidt

April 13, 1930 — February 14, 2024

Newton

Neoma R. Schmidt, 93, surrounded by her beautiful daughters, left this earth to join her husband in eternity, February 14, 2024.

Neoma Ruth (Wiebe) Schmidt was born April 13, 1930 in Whitewater, Ks. to Tiena R. (Wohlgemuth) and Abraham J. Wiebe.

On October 16, 1949 Neoma married her sweetheart, Wallis Emmit Schmidt, in Whitewater. From that union, came three daughters Trish (Jimmy) Hayes of Knoxville, TN. Tina (Scott) Saner of Ardmore, OK, and Teresa Schmidt of Newton. Later in life Neoma included Sara Reimer as a bonus daughter.

Neoma attended Columbus Avenue Church of Christ until her health kept her from physical attendance. She enjoyed being with the other ladies of the congregation.

As well as being a wife and mother, Neoma kept busy with several job opportunities. She was a window dresser at Woolworth's, a clerk at Pet Palace, a cashier at Bogart's Foods, then eventually becoming a knowledgeable staff member at Four Walls Fabrics before retiring.

Neoma was an amazing seamstress. Not only sewing for her daughters, she also sewed for others; making the uniforms for the Blue Angels Color Guard. Another passion of Neoma's was baking. She made one daughter's and one grandson's wedding cakes. She baked and decorated birthday cakes for every member of the family. Neoma loved to be creative. She painted, cross-stitched and knitted. She also enjoyed helping out at the local food pantry and held the position of a Girl Scout Leader.

Neoma was described by her daughters as being an "Amazing Momma" and accepting of those she just met and made them all feel welcome.

Neoma was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers; Leo Wiebe and Harold Wiebe and sister, Betty Moore. Survivors include her daughters and their spouses, grandchildren Sydney (Nick) Poker of Knoxville, TN. Zachary (Sarah) Hoover of Bethel, CT. Colin (Piper) Saner of Ada, OK. Great-grandchildren, Liam and Josiah Poker. As well as many beloved nieces and nephews that were all special in her heart.
