Norma Eileen McClure passed away peacefully shortly after midnight on January 8, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. She was the fourth of seven children born to John and Elizabeth Bergen in Elbing, KS on June 17, 1928. She had three older sisters and three younger brothers.

 

She worked as a secretary and an assistant office manager in Hutchinson, KS and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She raised three children there – Chuck, Mike and Gwen Hornbaker.

 

After 29 years in Hutchinson she married Richard McClure on New Years Day 1979 and moved to Maize, KS where they worked the family farm. They traveled to Europe, the Caribbean and parts of the USA to visit family and enjoyed a wonderful life of 30 years together.

 

In the past seven years she enjoyed life with new friends and visits from family at Newton Presbyterian Manor.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard in January, 2009. She is survived by her children Charles Hornbaker, MD (Connie) of Colorado Springs, CO, Michael Hornbaker of Wichita and Gwendolyn McCue (Dennis) of Stanberry, MO, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren with another on the way soon.

 

Norma accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young child and had an abiding faith in Him throughout her long life. She had many friends and loving family members who will miss her dearly but have peace that they will see her again in Heaven.

 

Burial was done at Elbing First Missionary Cemetery.  Her memorial service will be held at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel at 215 North Main in Newton at 10:30 am.., Saturday, January 27, 2018 With Pastor Jerroll Martens presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Newton Presbyterian Manor, 1200 East 12th Street, Newton, KS 67114.
