Opal Strain

Opal S. Strain 67, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at her Newton residence.  She was born April 20, 1947 in Goessel, Kansas to Floyd H. and Ella Marie (Marshall) Delay.  On December 9, 1988 she married John P. Strain in Newton, Kansas and he preceded her in death.  Opal retired as a Deli clerk for Dillon’s.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Newton.  She enjoyed gardening, making greeting cards and crafts.  She also enjoyed doing word searches.  Opal was enjoying getting to know her new puppy and spending time with her pet cat.  Her family was very important to her and she looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many friends.

She is survived by one son Douglas Likins of Oskaloosa, KS; 3 daughters Brenda and her husband Robert McCourry of Newton, KS, Cristie Likins of Haysville, KS and Traci and her husband Charles Chiarelli of Groton, CT. one brother Edward Delay of ElDorado, KS and one sister Carol Roker of Salina, KS. Step daughters Tracie Strain and her husband Lynn Lalouette, Tammie and Kenny Hall and Terri and Daryl Reimer all of Newton, KS; step son John and Katrina Strain Jr. of Wichita, KS.  16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel.  Private family interment is planned.
