Richard C. “Dick” Caraway 82, died Friday, September 22, 2017 at Wesley on Woodlawn Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.  He was born July 24, 1935 in Simpson, Kansas to William Guy and Ethel (Grace) Caraway. He was preceded in death by two wives: Betty L. (Brott) Caraway and Sandra (Lundquist) Caraway. Dick was a 1955 graduate of Beloit High School.  He worked 15 years at IML Freight, and as a desk manager at motel 6. Dick also worked for several years as a greeter at the Newton Walmart where he made many friends and community connections. He greatly enjoyed his time at Walmart and looked forward to going to work.  He served his country in the National Guard from 1952 to 1961 earning an honorable discharge.

 

Dick enjoyed growing up in Beloit and spending time with his brothers fishing in the Solomon River.  In his adult years he looked forward to trips to Nebraska to see his brother Bob. Dick was also loyal in his visits to the cemetery to place flowers on his brother William and other family member’s graves. He looked forward to time with his family and sharing stories and memories of growing up around Beloit.  He relaxed by carving wood and sharing his creations he also enjoyed the company of his favorite dog lady.

 

Dick is survived by his brother Robert of Ogallala, NE; daughter Elizabeth (Gary) Gatz of Newton, KS; Janet (Dave) Wallace of Newton, KS; Sallie (Dave) Schroeder of Twin Falls, ID.  He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, two wives, and brother William.

 

Graveside committal service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

Memorials are suggested to Davita Dialysis in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
