Robert C. Goering, 85, died at his home on Tuesday, May 6th in rural Newton.
Robert (Bob) was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 18, 1928. His parents, Samuel J.and Pauline (Miller) Goering did mission work in China for the first seven years of Bob’s life. They later moved to Colorado Springs and then to North Newton.
Bob attended Bethel College where he met Lorene Penner. They later married on July 31, 1949 at the Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton. They have made their home in the Newton area for over 65 years.
Bob farmed for many years and also ran a Chevrolet dealership for 16 years. After retirement he helped out family wherever needed.
His family would like to express their deep appreciation to all family, friends and especially, all his “coffee buddies” for their friendship over the years.
Bob is survived by his wife: Lorene Goering; children: Scott Goering, Bev Martinez and Trisha Grosch and husband, Doug; six grandchildren and nine great –grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Samuel J.and Pauline Goering.
A graveside committal service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, May 12th at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Following the service, the family will host a Gathering /Reception at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited.
