Robert (Bob) D. Hiebert 84, died January 6, 2025, at Morris County Hospital in Council Grove, Kansas. He was born June 12, 1940, in Walton, Kansas to Bernard G. and Lizzie (Neufeld) Hiebert. On November 15, 1958, he married Barbara Julane Manning at Walton, and she survives of the home.
Bob retired as a captain in the Newton Fire Department after 32 years of faithful service. He loved his job and the men he worked with.
He enjoyed going to auctions, collecting fire department memorabilia, and especially enjoyed following Berean Academy high school basketball. His greatest joy was his family, and he looked forward to family time especially spending time with his grandchildren and greats.
If one word could describe Bob, his family would choose integrity. His love for the Lord was personified by his consistent daily life. If you tried to outbid him at an auction, worshiped with him at church, sat next to him at a basketball game, or lived with him at home he was the same man. His favorite Bible verse was Galatians 2:20 ~ “I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.” That is how he would want to be remembered.
He is survived by his wife Julane of the home; sons Kip (Becky) Hiebert and Rob (Tami) Hiebert; one sister Viola Grace (John) Yoder; he is also survived by 9 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A private family interment will be in the Walton Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be at Norm’s Coffee Bar, 613 N. Main in Newton on Saturday, January 18, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Memorials may be made to Berean Academy and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
