Sara Sue Bretches

July 31, 1933 — November 21, 2023

Newton

Sue Bretches, age 90, of Newton, Kansas died on the 21st of November, 2023. She was born in 1933 to the late Mabel and Everett dye of Independence, Kansas.

She met her future husband Ralph Bretches in high school and they were married in 1956 after both graduated from the University of Kansas.

Sue felt great satisfaction in the fact that her husband and her sister Pat and husband Jack, and her brother Cay and the late Helen Pendleton and wife Joyce were all raised in independence.

They lived in Louisiana where her husband served 2 years as an officer in the U.S. Army. In 1958, he started his career as a pharmacist and they lived in Great Bend for 21 years and moved to Newton in 1984. When her children were young she was involved in cub scouts, girl scouts, PTA and in 4-H dog training for many years. When her children became young adults she was a board member and president of Newton Public Library Board of Trustees, Caring Hands Humane Society and RSVP.

She was also involved in committee commitments with Northview in Newton. She took great pride in her work with pre-school children both in Great Bend and Newton. Her commitment to children included volunteering at South Breeze elementary school. Also important to her was dog obedience training at Caring Hands and in adoptions for many years. Her greatest source of pride was her family, husband Ralph, children Kelly and Andy, grandchildren and her extended family of her sister Pat and brother Cay.
