Sara married Luis “Louie” Quinones in 1952 and they had one daughter together.

She loved painting and art and found enjoyment from playing her favorite music pieces on the piano.  Her plants and flowers were her pride and joy and she had an amazing green thumb.  Sara loved travelling but found the Pacific Northwest the place to call home for many years.

She leaves behind her daughter Cynthia “Cyndy” and son in law Alan Mitchell of Horseshoe Bay Texas; her brother Ben Cardenas and his wife Debbie of Oakland, Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sara was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 65 years Luis; her parents Amador and Rosa Cardenas; and her sisters Lupe Terrones, Emma Cardenas and Estella Ruvalcaba.

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions Private family funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church followed by burial in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery both in Newton.

Memorials in Sara’s name may be made to Caring Hands Humane Society or Newton Presbyterian Manor Employee Christmas Fund in care of Petersen Funeral Home.

  1. She was a wonderful person & a great friend. I know she is in heaven singing country music with Louie & all her friends!

  2. I’m so thankful to have shared our lives and families’ lives with Sara and her family. I was lucky enough to know her for my whole life. My parents and Sara & Louie were such close friends. I know they’re all together happily watching over us kids (60-70 year old kids). My love & prayers and happy memories are with Sara’s family. Til we see each other again in Heaven! Much love!

  3. Sara my Love goes with you. You hold a very special place in my heart, say Hi to the girls at morning coffee. Love Eternal. Lynn Wright Kerstetter.
