March 26, 2019

Sherry Rowland, 68, died Tuesday, March 26, 2019.  She was born November 4, 1950, in Newton, to her loving and faithful parents Emmert and Virginia Hanke Rowland.

Sherry received her Bachelor’s Degree from Emporia State University and  taught P.E. grades 1-12 as well as coaching all of the girls’ high school sports for 4 years before pursuing and receiving her Masters from Fort Hays State University.  She worked as a high school counselor for the next 10 years. Over a span of 30 years starting in 1987, the need arose for her to use her extraordinary organizational skills in care giving. During that time, she provided compassionate care to 6 different family members and friends as well as guiding numerous other people through confusing retirement and healthcare issues.  She was an enthusiastic supporter of her niece and nephew in their activities spending time with them every chance she could.  Loving and serving people and Jesus were her passions.

She is survived by her brother David Rowland of Newton; one niece, Jill Rowland; one great-nephew, Kolby Clanton; and two great-nieces, Katy Clanton and Kaiah Wagner. She is also survived by her friend Wanda Tilford.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, sister Vickie Rowland-Moore,  her sister-in-law Linda Thomas Rowland, and her nephew Daniel Rowland.

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday April 2, 2019 at Grace Community Church in the “Fireside Room” with Pastor David E. Reimer presiding.  Visitation will be 5 to 9 Monday with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. 1. Sherry was an amazing person. I missed seeing her smiling face at KB after Vicki passed away. My condolences for you all.

  2. Sherry (Coach) will be greatly missed but her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be remembered forever.

How very softly you tiptoed into our world,
almost silently, only a moment you stayed.
But what an imprint your footsteps have left upon our hearts

  3. Sherry ( Coach) blessed so many people with her faith and kindness. Praying that you’ll find comfort in your memories of her and in the knowledge that others are missing her, too.”
“May tender memories soften your grief,
May fond recollection bring you relief,
And may you find comfort and peace in the thought
Of the joy that knowing your loved one brought…
For time and space can never divide
Or keep your loved one from your side.
When memory paints in colors true,
the happy hours that belonged to you.”

  4. Sherry ( Coach) blessed so many people with her faith and kindness. Praying that you’ll find comfort in your memories of her and in the knowledge that others are missing her, too.”

“We thought of you in love today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday and days before that, too. We think of you in silence, we often speak your name. Now all we have is memories and your picture in frame. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we’ll never part. God has you in his keeping, we have you in our hearts.”

  5. I worked at Bethel Home in the 1980s and remember how faithfully Sherry would visit her sister Vicky, who was a resident there.

May Sherry Now Res in Peace
