Stephen L. “Steve” Hawkey

Stephen L. (Steve) Hawkey, 55, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas.  He was born August 18, 1958 in Newton, Kansas to Delbert and Darlene (Schertz) Hawkey.  Steve was a member of the Highland Trinity United Church of Christ in rural Newton, Kansas. He was a graduate of Hesston High School and lifelong resident of the Hesston Community.


Steve is survived by his sister Julie Hawkey of Oakley, Kansas; Uncles and Aunts: Gene and Doris Hawkey and Dale and Judy Hawkey all of Newton, Kansas. He is also survived by many cousins and friends.


Steve is preceded in death by his parents.


A service of celebration and remembrance will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Highland Trinity United Church of Christ at the corner of Dutch Avenue and Anderson Road in rural Newton with Pastor Gary Blaine presiding. Private family inurnment will be in the Hesston City Cemetery at a later date. A register will be available to sign from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Petersen Funeral Home


Memorials are suggested to Highland Trinity United Church of Christ, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Kansas Christian Home.
