Thelma Morgan 90, died Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas. She was born July 7, 1926 in Lincoln, Nebraska to LeRoy and Mary (Diehl) Carr. She married Grant Morgan on March 11, 1945 and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1988. Thelma worked as a dietary manager in nursing homes in several towns including Sedgwick, Halstead and Merriam, Kansas.

 

She enjoyed sewing and embroidery and also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. Thelma also enjoyed spending time outside doing yard work and enjoying the colorful birds.  She especially liked taking time to watch the hummingbirds that came to her yard.  Family was important to Thelma and she greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many friends.

 

She is survived by her daughters: Sue Shirk and Linda and Pete Funk both of Newton, KS and son Doug Morgan also of Newton, KS. One brother Douglass Carr of Bentonville, AR and two sisters Juanita Bailey of Topeka, KS and Elsie Karell of Wichita, KS. She has 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Grant Morgan. Son in law Rodney Shirk and 3 brothers and 7 sisters.

 

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2016 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Reverend Dr. Diana Leaf presiding. Burial will be in the Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.  Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Kindred Hospice in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
