Thelma Warkentine, 84, died Friday, May 24, 2013, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, KS.  She was born August 3, 1928, in Peabody, Kansas to Gilbert and Gladys (Burton) Manka . On April 19, 1947, she married Marvin E. Warkentine and he preceded her in death on December 11, 2009 after 62 years of marriage. Thelma graduated valedictorian from Peabody High School in 1946 and she attended the University of Kansas. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.  Thelma enjoyed wintering in Texas with her husband. She and Marvin earned an exceptional service award with the Carriage Travel Club in 2005.  She was a former member of the Burns School Board where she served as secretary treasurer.  She also was a longtime 4-H leader.  Thelma enjoyed playing games on her computer, puzzles, and card games. Her family was very important to her and she greatly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends that she has made.

 Thelma is survived by 3 daughters: Carol and Bob Powell of Woodland Park, CO; Paula and Lyle Thiessen of Topeka, KS; and Annette and Darren Weems of Peabody, KS; 2 sons: Blaine and Carol Warkentine of Emporia, KS and  Denis and Val Warkentine of Topeka, KS;  She also is survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren

 Thelma is preceded in death by her husband Marvin E. Warkentine. And granddaughter Shari Warkentine Hylton; 3 brothers Roy, Lyle and Alvin Manka and 2 sisters Helen Storbeck and Marjorie Morgan.  Also preceding her in death were her parents.

 Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday May 30, 2013 at Peabody United Methodist Church with The Reverend David Ragland presiding.  Burial will be in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody, KS.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 Memorials are suggested to Peabody United Methodist Church and Peabody Burns Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
