Tom Cole 84, died Wednesday January 15, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas he was born May 1, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri to John and Zoue Cole.  On October 2, 1964 he married Mary Lewis in Newton, Kansas and she survives of the home.  Tom was a retired street department employee for the city of Newton.  He was a faithful member of the First Church of God in Newton where he served the church in various capacities including the bus ministry and on the board of deacons.  He enjoyed working as a crossing guard at both Chisolm and the former McKinley Schools.  Tom liked to spend time with his coffee group and greatly looked forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends. He also enjoyed collecting hats, caps and pens.

 

He is survived by his wife Mary of the home; daughters Joyce and her husband Kevin Roach and Marsha and her husband Gene Borders all of Newton; sister Darlene Elam of Wichita; 4 grandchildren: Erica Roach, Eric Roach, Kayla Borders and Kendra Borders and Niece Sally Rowley of Wichita and David Elam of Florida.

 

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, twin brother John Cole and brother Calvin Cole

 

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at First Church of God in Newton with Pastor Clint McBroom presiding.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

 

Memorials are suggested to First Church of God in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
