Vernon J. Wonders

Vernon J. Wonders 93, passed away Tuesday January 22, 2019 at Asbury Park in Newton, Kansas.  He was born July 17, 1925 in Vivian, South Dakota to John B. and Maude B (Jostmeyer) Wonders.  On November 19, 1947 he married Audrey Hardiman in in Newton, Kansas and she preceded him death on September 14, 2012.

Vernon served his country during WWII in the United States Navy.  He retired from the Cargill Flour Mill in Newton as a foreman.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.  He especially enjoyed fishing the Cottonwood River.  Vernon also enjoyed spending time gardening around his home.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be remembered as an amazing man, wonderful dad and a kind and generous person.

Vernon is survived by his son’s and their wives Ronald and Mary Wonders and Gary and Beth Wonders; daughters: Karen Wonders, Marilyn Lucky and Velma Derringer; one brother Harold and his wife Ilene Wonders and 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister Kay Founts.

Graveside committal service with Navy Honors will be 11:00 a.m. Monday January 28, 2019 at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton with Pastor Scott Kliewer presiding. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday January 27^th at Petersen Funeral Home with the family greeting friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
