Vicky Schroeder

Vicky Schroeder, 71, passed away August 5, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Newton, Kansas at Axtell Hospital on April 8, 1950, the daughter of Ross and Leota (Gentry) Ames. She attended and graduated from Peabody High School in Peabody, Kansas.

Vicky grew up in Walton, Kansas, where she spent lots of time in her families store, Ames Merchantile, started by her grandpa and uncle. Vicky would spend her entire life in the town of Walton and enjoyed serving the community in many ways. She especially enjoyed organizing and serving on the board of the Walton Rural Life Festival for 10 years.

On the Friday after Thanksgiving 1989, Vicky was united in marriage to Everett Schroeder in Newton, Kansas. They celebrated their 31^st anniversary last year.

Vicky enjoyed cooking, sewing and creating many beautiful quilts, painting, travel, and getting her hands in the dirt, designing her lovely flower gardens. She definitely had a green thumb!

Vicky had a kind, loving, and generous personality. She was soft-spoken, but could cracks jokes even during her hardest days.

Her family will fondly remember her baking them cakes on their birthdays and for friends weddings, the warm and wonderful family holiday dinners, and her superb burrito making skills.

Vicky is survived by her husband, Everett Schroeder; son, Brian (Gale) Verschelden; Step-children, Amy (Brandon) Jameson and Chad (Laurie) Schroeder; grandchildren, Callyn, Dylan, Emma and Cohen Jameson, and Connor Haley, Luke, and McKinsey Schroeder; and sibling, Darrel (Pam) Ames.

Visitation is from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Monday, August, 9^th, 2021 at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 10^th, 2021, also at the funeral home presided over by Pastor Amos McCarthy. A graveside ceremony will follow the service in Walton, Kansas.

Memorial contributions in Vicky’s name may be made to the Walton Fire Department or the Walton Rural Life Center, in care of Petersen funeral.
