Vivian Maxine (Mosiman) Motter-Franz

Our mother Vivian Maxine (Mosiman) Motter-Franz was born in Newton, Ks March 6, 1931 to Ernest & Justina (Bergen) Mosiman. She passed away on Dec. 24, 2021.

She was raised in rural Butler and Harvey counties. She attended Foster Rural School which was a one room schoolhouse, then completed her Elementary education in Elbing. She graduated from Whitewater High School in 1948.

She accepted Christ as her Savior at a revival meeting at the Elbing Missionary Church and was baptized, at the age of 12, in Sand Creek. She married our dad Ronald Motter, on April 17, 1949 at the Elbing Missionary Church.

Mom began her career in food service as the owner of the Whitewater Café in early 1960. It was a very successful but due to the long hours and lost time with family  they decided to close the café. She then became a cook at the Whitewater Grade School and she retired as the food service director from Remington Unified School District. She had so much fun working with her best friend Lavina and sister in-law Halicia. While mother was food service director the Remington District was one of the schools chosen by the Federal Government to be interviewed by A.T. Kearney Inc. management consultants from Los Angeles California.

Mom and Dad were married for 44 years. He passed away in 1993. They shared love and laughter and great times with children and grandchildren. We remember how much fun we had on our yearly family vacations.

She married Lawrence Franz in July 1997. After 19 years of marriage, he passed away.

We were blessed to have a loving mother. She never hesitated to tell us how much she loved us and we never doubted how much we were loved. Mom loved being a grandma and grammy to her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She made them a priority in her life.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Ronnie of 44 years and Larry of 19 years, her brother Aaron, and sisters Martha and EdnaMae. She is survived by her son Byron (Ann) Motter, Newton;  daughter Veanna Unruh, Topeka;  four grandchildren Troy (Daniey) Unruh, Pittsburg;  Stephanie (Chris) Thompson, Ozawkie; Jill (Troy) Smith, Andover;  Lindsey (Titus) Brandt, Hesston;  Eight great grandchildren: Grant,  Sydney, Tyr, Thor,  Alex,  Michael, Caleb and Nora,  a stepdaughter Sondra (Tim) Winningham, a step grandson, Steve Bradshaw, six step- great grandchildren: Koby, Kaden and Delany,  Mason, Jared, and Will.

We as a family would like to thank you for all of your prayers and words of encouragement during Moms illness. We also want to thank Good Shepard Hospice for their loving care of mother and support of our family. A special thanks to Shawn and Tiara for their compassionate love and care during her final weeks.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Koerner Heights Church in Newton, Kansas with Pastor Dave Froese presiding.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday December 28, 2021 at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Whitewater Cemetery, Whitewater, Kansas.
