Wayne V. Porter 92 died April 16, 2025, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. He was born January 15, 1933, in Vona, Colorado to Carl H. and Agnes M. (Davidson) Porter.
On October 3, 1954, he married Janet Jacobsen at First United Methodist Church in Newton. She preceded him in death on December 2, 1971. He later married Sabina Zillner and she preceded him in death on November 27, 2013.
Wayne was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Newton. He retired from the Newton Fire Department in 1992 after serving for 30 years, attaining the rank of Captain.
He proudly served his county in the United States Navy where he was stationed aboard the USS Lake Champlain Aircraft Carrier CV 39 during the Korean War.
Wayne’s greatest joy was being a dad, and he loved raising his family and being a good husband and friend to many.
He is survived by his daughter Fawn Schmidt; sons Farrell, Faber, and Fayne Porter. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Wayne is preceded in death by his two wives Janet and Sabina; son Farley; sisters Dorthy Williams; Hazel Abrams; Bernice Winsky; Esther Israel, Joy Payne, Lorene Kater; Evelyn Hackney; Jean Pierson and Beatrice Porter; two brothers Eldon and Marvin Porter.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Newton with Pastor Chip Bungard presiding. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with Navy Honor’s will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton.
Memorials may be made to Newton Fire/EMS and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
