William S. “Bud” Laughlin, 77, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Reflection Living in Wichita.

He was born Nov. 25, 1935, in Syracuse to Wilbur P. and Esther L. (Sherwood) Laughlin.

Bud was a 1954 graduate of Garden City High School. On Oct. 8, 1961, he married Brenda Odle in Junction City, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2012.

Bud and Brenda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011. He was a member of Hesston United Methodist Church. Bud was an active member of the Hesston community. He was the former owner/operator of the Hesston Food Market, member of the Hesston Chamber of Commerce and actively served on the Hesston Area Senior Center Board. He greatly enjoyed traveling with his wife,  to Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean, among others places.

Bud spent time reading, listening to music, and building model trains. He was a people person who never met a stranger. Bud greatly looked forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends.

Bud is survived by three daughters: Amy and Mark Elliott of Hutchinson, Dana Laughlin of Wichita, and Tanya and Tom Ketchum of Hutchinson; nieces: Becky and Evan McCorry of Wichita, and Beth and Will Cokely of Lawrence; grandsons: Taylor and Austin Rea, Nathan, Nick and Sam Elliott, Ryan and Dustin Ketchum; brothers-in-law, Gary Ackerman of Wichita, Tom and Cathy Odle of Wichita, David Odle of Newton, and Bob and Teresa Odle of Manhattan.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents: Wilbur Laughlin, Esther Laughlin Coons and Earl Coons; wife: Brenda Odle Laughlin; and sisters: Mary Jane Ackerman and Earlene Fry.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday April 24, 2013, at Hesston United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Geniese Stanford presiding. Burial will follow in the Hesston City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
